The AusCongo Network was founded by Pastor Constantin Mukendi in the year 2008, after he identified a need for better systems to ensure remittances sent to the Democratic Republic of Congo(DRC) by Congolese people living in Australia.
He was inspired by the proverb "give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime". From this dream AusCongo Network was born.
What started as a vision has grown into a grass-roots nonprofit organization committed to reducing poverty through community development, business training, and sustainable partnerships across two nations.
To provide opportunities for Congolese people living in poverty to transform their lives through community development, business development, microfinance, partnerships, training, and other activities aimed at building strong and sustainable communities.
To support the empowerment of people in the Democratic Republic of Congo by renewing and restoring local economies; and, to support the empowerment amongst Congolese communities in Australia by building skills and capacities. To teach people to fish for a lifetime rather than giving them a fish for a day.
ACN is currently working with the Congolese community of Mbuji-Mayi to guide and finance impoverished locals. We have a community centre in the town which consists of six staff members, who run several community development projects.
Asset-Based Community Development teaching essential business skills
Access to capital for growing local businesses
6 staff members supporting multiple development projects
Regular community gatherings for collaboration
