Stitching Together Economic Independence

The Sewing Social Enterprise project trains women in Mbuji-Mayi in professional garment construction, tailoring, and alterations. Skilled seamstresses are in high demand locally, and this training turns that demand into a sustainable income stream.

A sewing machine is more than a tool — it's the beginning of a woman's financial independence.

After completing training, graduates access ACN's microfinance fund to purchase their first sewing machine — typically $80–$120 AUD equivalent. Many graduates grow from home-based tailoring into established businesses employing others in the community.
