Light Where There Was Only Darkness

The majority of households and schools in Mbuji-Mayi have no access to reliable electricity. Families rely on dangerous and expensive kerosene lamps for light, and children are unable to study after dark — limiting their educational opportunities.

When the light came on for the first time, the children immediately sat down and opened their books. That image says everything.

Buddy2Buddy Solar provides affordable solar lanterns and small solar systems to families, schools, and small businesses. The project is named for its 'buddy' model — donors sponsor a solar unit for a specific family or school, creating a direct human connection across continents.

How Buddy2Buddy Solar Works

☀️

Solar Unit Provision

Affordable, durable solar lanterns and small solar systems provided to families, schools, and small businesses at subsidised prices.

🔗

The Buddy Model

Each solar unit links to a sponsor — creating a direct connection between a donor in Australia and a family in Mbuji-Mayi benefiting from light.

🎓

Education Impact

Children in solar-equipped homes study for an average of 2 extra hours per night — directly improving educational outcomes and future opportunities.

Sponsor a Solar Unit, Sponsor a Future

A donation of $80 can provide a solar lantern to a family in Mbuji-Mayi — giving them clean, safe light for years. A $200 donation can power a school room. All donations are tax deductible.
